The Deputy Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah has been accused of bribing his longtime rival for the Omoro County MP seat, Simon Toolit.
Toolit, a Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) member was the Omoro County MP in the eighth Parliament but got defeated by the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM)’s Mr Oulanyah in 2011 and the February 18, 2016 parliamentary elections.
He challenged the elections results in Gulu High court but his petition was dismissed with costs by Mbarara Resident Judge Justice David Matovu last month.
Gulu District FDC Publicity Secretary Kelly Komakech said Toolit had received a bribe from Oulanyah to cross to NRM following the court case.
However, Toolit dismissed the allegations saying he didn’t receive any bribes from Oulanyah to cross to NRM.
The allegations comes a result of Toolit being fronted as fronted as a sole candidate for the Omoro District Chairperson race by a section of the FDC members.
The FDC party members in the District have been split into two with one side supporting Toolit’s sole candidature while the other against the move.
