The Speaker, Rt.Hon. Rebecca Kadaga has expressed gratitude to the Church of Uganda for granting Busoga region a new diocese, the Central Busoga Diocese and the appointment of its first Bishop.
The Speaker said that the process of granting new dioceses is not as simple as many had thought.
“I did not know that this was tiring. I had given up but I thank God that we have a new diocese and Bishop,” Kadaga said.
Rt. Hon. Kadaga was addressing the Christians from Busoga region resident in Kampala, at St. Stephen’s Kisugu, Church of Uganda, Thursday, 22 September 2016.
Kadaga urged the Basoga to contribute generously towards the consecration of the Bishop Elect.
“I call upon all of us to fundraise towards the success of this very important event. I will urge all members of the Busoga Parliamentary Group to come forward in the same regard,” she added.
The Speaker bought a certificate worth shs1 million as a start-up contribution towards the function.
The Chairperson of the organising committee for the consecration of the Bishop Elect, Mrs Robina Shonubi also thanked all those who made the process possible and called for continued support to the new diocese.
“We are happy for getting the Central Busoga Diocese and we are working hard to see that the function is a success,” she said.
Bishop Elect Venerable Patrick Wakula will be consecrated and enthroned on the 13th November 2016 in Iganga.
