Angry women in Soroti on Friday stripped naked protesting against a move by Soroti University officials from allegedly taking over part of their land.
Some of the women completely stripped naked and lay in the middle of the road while some were half naked with their breasts uncovered.
The protest stems from a controversy over 980 acres of land on which Teso College Aloet is located and now where Soroti University is being constructed.
Residents in the area says their parents had way back donated 980 acres of land for construction of Teso College Aloet.
Teso College Aloet allegedly curved four hundred and sixty acres of land and donated to Soroti University.
The locals say they are not claiming the 980 acres of land but they accuse Soroti University authorities for encroaching further into their land beyond what had originally been donated to Teso College.
They claim the University authorities recently came with a map that is trying to annex over one hundred and forty acres of land to the university.
One of the angry resident of Apuuton village, Teddy Atubo told Uganda Radio Network that she was ready to die in order claim the disputed land.
Atubo one of the women in the nude protests says she was forced to protest in the way because the leaders in the districts have turned a deaf ear to their concerns.
Mary Apako another protester accuses the University of destroying her cassava and potatoes using a grader.
Madina Akwii another nude protestor wants the boundaries of the disputed for land opened using the old survey map.
The vice chairperson Local Council one of Apuuton Aloet village, Francis Okudu over 300 families could lose their land to the University.
He says his office received a letter from the University ordering them not to cultivate crops and bury their dead in the disputed land.
Okudu says there are over 50 graves buried on the disputed land since 1970s.
The nude women forced the police to retreat from the scene.
The police had earlier fire live bullets and tear gas in effort to disperse the protestors.
Some of the policemen were forced to flee from the scene when they women confronted them naked.
Charles Obela, the Regional Commander Field Force Police said he had led the police to restore peace in the area.
On Wednesday angry residents of Apuuton village Arapai sub county stormed the office of the Resident District Commissioner Soroti over University land dispute.
