He was the man of the evening if we are to take things by face value.
The Vice President (VP) Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi’s black-yellow-and-red suit became the most talk about and tweeted attire during the Tuesday State of the Nation Address.
He was among the first top government officials to arrive at Serena Conference Centre in Kampala ahead of President Yoweri Museveni’s address.
When the VP took his seat, he immediately descended deep down into slumber land and was soon fast asleep.
Before the president could start his address, Ssekandi was close to snoring, according to the images captured on live TV.
Sleeping being the norm for government officials on state functions, tweeps directed their attention to the VP’s attire.
Former Daily Monitor editor, Daniel Kalinaki, currently Africa Editor at Nation Media Group and Author of the book: “Kizza Besigye & Uganda’s Unfinished Revolution”, could not let this slip by.
“Is Vice President Ssekandi wearing a curtain at the #SOTNUG16?” Kalinaki tweeted.
However, other officials including the Government Chief Whip Ruth Nankabirwa were also seen clad in a similar attire with colours of the Ugandan flag.
A tweep called Imongit Denis said while NRM MPs can ask for Shs5m for a suit, tthe VP Ssekandi comes for the state of the nation with “that suit”.
Stone Atwine said the the only true thing about #SOTNUg16 was “Ssekandi suit and nap”.
Nyina’abarongo wondered: “So Ssekandi’s wife was like “daddy onyumidde omukolo” as he was leaving the house?”
Nuwaha remarked thus: “Someone might think Ssekandi was going to perform as a Clown on some kids’ Party.”
Comedian Kenneth Kimuli aka Pablo said Ssekandi’s attire reminds him of upcoming pastors. “I hope he isn’t wearing a sharp shoe.”
A one Odondo wondered whether Ssekandi hired the services of Hon Kato Lubwama [comedian turned legislator] to design his attire.”
