Police officer Gilbert Arinaitwe Bwana, who shot at the limelight after he doused Dr Kizza Besigye with pepper that nearly blinded him at Mulago roundabout in Kampala during Walk-to-work campaign in 2011, has refuted social media allegations that he has been admitted to Butabika hospital over mental illnesses.
Police suspended Arinaitwe for the incident, which triggered his financial strains that affected his life and family. Soon his wife accused him of being abusive and failing to provide for his child.
Mental illness is one of the grounds to retire a police officer.
Many social media activists have been linking his work and family problems to his health.
“Since I was born, I have never had any mental illness. I have never been in Butabika hospital,” Arinaitwe told Daily Monitor in an interview.
Bwana is ready to sue for defamation any one who insists on calling him mad.
According to Police spokesman, Fred Enanga, Arinaitwe was cleared by the Director of Public Prosecutions and he is working without any psychiatric illness.
He is attached to our Human Resource Directorate where he reports daily.
