Army retired Major, Guma Gumisiriza, has beaten his rival and incumbent, Kyoma Xavier, to recover Ibanda North constituency seat which he lost in 2011 elections.
In yesterday’s NRM primaries, Maj Guma gathered 2,0982 votes while Kyoma managed 2,0720 votes.
Guma was declared winner of the primaries.
The retired army officer was a week back admitted at Nakasero hospital in Kampala in a coma.
He was at first feared poisoned but family said he also had high blood pressure.
His blood samples were taken to Germany for a thorough test.
Other reports said he had even travelled to Nairobi for treatment.
Guma was defeated by Kyoma in the 2011 elections; he was accused of killing Kyoma’s supporters upon which he was arrested and thrown behind bars at Kyamugorani prison in Mbarara over murder charges.
In 2012, Gumisiriza and his co-accused were granted bail by High court judge Andrew Bashaija after spending six months in prison.
