Sylvester Opira, the Namayingo Resident District Commissioner (RDC), has instructed security officers in the district to shoot suspected Lake Victoria pirates on sight.
While addressing journalists in the district, Opira said several warnings have been issue against pirate activists but all in vain, a reason as to why he issued the order.
According to him, pirates have been terrorizing fishermen and ordinary citizens, disrupting transport, fishing and other business activities around the lake.
He revealed that regular police and marine police officers had in a combined operation carried out earlier last week in Lolwe Islands arrested three suspected pirates from Kenyan who are said to have earlier stolen four boat engines from Ugandan fishermen. During the same operation, he said, 3 boat engines were recovered.
Namayingo District Police Commander, Mr Godfrey Abigaba, identified the suspects as Gabriel Nanguma, Victor Obore and one Onyango.
