Uganda police chief, Kale Kayihura, has issued a terror alert warning of a plot by Somali based al Shabaab insurgents to attack Kampala.
Kayihura in an alert issued Wednesday evening says the terrorists plan to bomb Kampala tomorrow Thursday September 2015 during Eid celebrations.
“In particular, they are targeting mosques such as Tawhid Mosque located in Kisenyi, central Kampala.”
Kayihura said the police were hunting for an Al Shabaab cell/group behind the planned attack and advised the general public to be extra alert and vigilant.
“Look out for anything and anybody suspicions, be bold and challenge him/her to identify himself/herself and what he/she maybe carrying eg if he/she may be putting on a long coat; and immediately report to the nearest police on patrol, post or station, another security personnel, crime preventer or LC official,” the police chief advised.
Kayihura assured the Muslim community not to panic.
“We have put extra measures to ensure that the city and the country and the Eid celebrations are careful and successful.”
He requested the pubic to cooperate with authorities in places lie bus parks, markets, entertainment and other crowded places.
