SFC soldiers break into Mbabazi home

Soldiers attached to the elite presidential guard on Wednesday jumped a fence and broke into Amama Mbabazi’s home in Kololo, a Kampala suburb.

The first time military personnel raided Amama’s home was in September 2014 after he had just been sacked from the position of Prime Minister.

In an operation commanded by the UPDF Joint Chief of Staff Brig Leo Kyanda, Mbabazi’s UPDF guards were withdrawn and replaced with a few police guards from the VVIP section.

On February 19, 2016, military and police once again stormed and cordoned off Mbabazi’s Kololo.

This followed reports that Amama, a former presidential candidate, was planning to release his own provisional results contrary to what the electoral commission is announcing.

Speaking on Sunday at a thanksgiving ceremony of a Go Forward member and Kanyatorongo sub county LC3 chairman, Kenneth Tumuhamwe, Mbabazi said soldiers from the Special Forces Command [SFC] once more raided his home.

SFC is the elite unit commanded by First Son Brig Muhoozi Kainerugaba, and charged with the mandate of guarding the president, vice president, First Lady and other key security installations.

“On Wednesday at around 6am in the morning, SFC soldiers jumped over my fence in Kololo. They stayed in my compound the whole day,” Mbabazi told his supporters.

He said peace doesn’t necessarily mean absence of war.

It was the same day opposition leader Kizza Besigye was arrested in Kampala after escaping his home detention in Kasangati Wakiso district.

Mbabazi said there can be no peace without freedom of speech or movement or association.

“We can’t afford peace of a grave yard because that peace belongs to the lifeless,” he said.

Mbabazi said he would call a Go Forward assessment conference and then speak out, at the right time.

“I will speak out very soon unless they saw my lips. Even then, I will use sign language.”
