Special Forces Command [SFC], the elite unit that guards the president, has named the soldier killed by lightning on Tuesday.

SFC spokesperson Maj. Chris Magezi identified the deceased as Private Christopher Karugaba.

Karugaba was deployed at the outer perimeter guard post of State House, Entebbe when lightning struck him dead.

Karugaba’s colleagues also attached to Special Force Command were injured and rushed to Entebbe hospital.

Magezi told the state-run New Vision that the injured soldiers are recovering well and would be discharged soon.

Karugaba, the late, joined UPDF in 2009 at the age of 25.

He studied at Rutooma Secondary School in Bushenyi district and Nkumba University, Entebbe.

Arrangements for his burial are currently underway.
