At least seven teachers have been reported injured in a Wednesday night accident while being driven back to their homes after teachers’ day celebrations.
The new constituency vehicle donated by the Kalangala MP Julius Mukasa Opondo was overloaded.
The vehicle was taking the Kalangala – Mulaba route when it overturned in a sharp corner adjacent to Kibanga Primary school where the teachers’ Day celebrations were held yesterday evening.
The injured teachers were rushed to Kalangala Health Center IV for treatment.
Meanwhile, Uganda National Teachers Union (UNATU) yesterday clashed with government over Teachers’ Day.
Government had ordered that teachers go to class even when the main celebrations had been organised at Lugogo in Kampala with President Yoweri Museveni and minister of education Janet Museveni among the guests.
Teachers defied the order and closed schools.
