Rwanda National Police (RNP), Nyamirambo Police station Saturday paraded Mugemana Jacques, 29, accused of creating and using a fake facebook page account in the names of Hon. Minister of Defence, James Kabarebe, with intention of scam.
The RNP Police Spokesperson in Kigali City, SP Modeste Mbabazi, told the media that Mugema was arrested Friday night following criminal investigations against him of using the name of Hon Minister General James Kabarebe on facebook by conning money from many victims from Rwanda and outside through mobile money https://www.facebook.com/james.kabarebe (public figure).
Mugema Jacques regrets the crimes and request for forgiveness from all Rwandans and Hon Minister of Defence.
Gen James Kabarebe in particular for tarnishing his good image.
He said he used the name of Minister Kabarebe targeting large followers with whom he can gain false money.
Renzaho Samuel, 57, a Kacyiru resident and one of the victims paid 100,000Rwf to Mugema Jacques alias “Major Olivier Nsengiyumva”, an alleged Assistant to the Minister of Defence, James Kabarebe.
Renzaho told the media that he paid the money on request of his son living in South Africa who requested for assistance.
Renzaho paid the money to Mugema using mobile money to telephone number 078368517.
SP Modeste Mbabazi noted that Article 318 of the penal code states that anyone who obtains the property of another person by fraud or by intentionally using false names or qualities, shall be liable to a term of imprisonment of three to five years and a fine of between Rwf3 million and Rwf5 million.
