The Minister for Internal Affairs, Hon. Rose Akol has directed the Uganda Police Force to investigate and clump down on bars and brothels showcasing nude dancing [kimansulo] and promoting immoral acts around the country.

The directive follows complaints raised by Members of Parliament during a sitting of Parliament chaired by the Speaker, Rt.Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, Friday 08th January 2016.

Aruu County Member of Parliament, Hon. Odonga Otto who took the floor on a matter of national importance said that contrary to the provisions of the penal code, several bars and night clubs around Kampala are staging nude dances [(strip tease) in the evenings.

“After midnight, people including school going children pay a fee of shs1000 to watch women performing erotic and nude dancing in so many bars around the capital city and the country yet this is not acceptable,” Hon. Odonga Otto said.

He wondered whether the Ministry of Internal Affairs had made any interventions to curb the vice through the various security organs.

Kawempe North MP.Hon. Latif Ssebaggala notified the House that a number of bars act as hosts for homosexuality and related activities.

“We are worried that our children who visit these places are going to be recruited into homosexuality,” he expressed concern.

Hon. Winnie Kiiza the Kasese Woman MP also rallied government to control the sale of cheap alcoholic spirits packed in sachets which several young people buy on the open market.

“Some of these performers and revellers drink potent gin in small sachets bought at Shs.200 and this gives them the courage to participate in these acts,” Hon. Winnie Kiiza said.

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Hon. Rose Akol expressed displeasure and promised to take action through the security agencies.

“This is not good for the future of our children and the country. For that matter, I instruct the police to investigate the matter,” Hon. Akol said.

She further urged Legislators and the public to be vigilant and endeavour to report such acts to the law enforcement agencies.
