Sauti Sol to perform at Uganda entertainment awards

Barely days after headlining the Club Megafest show at Sheraton Hotel, high-flying Kenyan boy band Sauti Sol is yet again set for another performance in Kampala.

The famous quartet is among a list of high-profile artistes set to perform at this year’s Uganda Entertainment Awards (UEA) scheduled for this Friday at Serena Hotel.

The Sura Yako hit makers will be joined by Nigeria’s Yemi Alade of the Johnny fame, Tanzania’s Ali Kiba and a slew of top Ugandan acts to entertain guests at the Aug 19 do.

“We are honoured and delighted to announce that Sauti Sol are among our long list of star performers for the second annual editions of the UEA,” Kabs Haloha, the awards’ CEO, told this website in an exclusive interview earlier today.

Haloha could however not reveal details of the last minute agreement that has secured his team the services of one of the hottest names in African music right now.

He nonetheless confirmed that the Kenyan outfits will arrive on Thursday evening ahead of the Friday show having gone back home to catch a breather following last Saturday’s Megafest gig.

It will be the third time for the Live and Die in Africa singers to perform in Uganda having held their first concert here on July 11, 2015.

The stylish Kenyan pop stars will certainly be in good company at the glitzy red carpet show as a string of other world renowned celebrities including Liverpool FC legend Robbie Fowler and Gaetano Kagwa’s ex-lover and former Big Brother Africa housemate, Abby, have all confirmed their attendance.

A total of 47 awards will be given out at this year’s ceremony with singers Eddy Kenzo and Sheebah Karungi being tipped to sweep the board with their six and five nods, respectively.

The pair will go neck and neck for the Artiste of the Year and Best Video categories with the Queen seemingly having the upper hand.

The hotly-billed event will become the second only African show to be featured on American Entertainment TV giant E! following South Africa’s Saftas in March.

Tickets to the show are selling at Shs50,000 and Shs100,000 for ordinary and VIP seats, respectively. Corporate tables go for Shs 3m each. You can now buy your ticket online at jumia.com and easyticket.co.ug as well as Serena Hotel.
