Western Equatoria State Caretaker Governor, Patrick Zamoi, says death toll from fuel tanker explosion in South Sudan has shot up to 170 dead.
The governor made the revelation while speaking to the UN radio, Miraya this afternoon.
He has declared 3 days of mourning.
A fuel tanker exploded in the midst of a crowd in Bahir Naam Payam about 20 km from Maridi town in Western Equatoria State on Wednesday evening.
The truck coming from Juba to Yambio overturned and began leaking prompting people to siphon the fuel.
The truck exploded in the process killing 85 people according to Ateny Wek Ateny, the presidential spokesman.
53 of the injured were rushed to the Maridi Civil Hospital while another 38 people were taken to Olo Primary Health Clinic in Mambe Payam, some of whom passed away this morning due to burn wounds.
