A suspected arms trafficker has been arrested in Torit, Eastern Equatoria State Information Minister has said.
Mark Arkio said the suspect is a driver for an international NGO working in the state.
He was arrested this week while transporting guns in the NGO vehicle from Torit to Kapoeta town.
“Upon checking the vehicle, they found two Klashnikov riffles and two cartridges full of ammunitions,” Mark explained to Eye Radio.
“The security, upon discovering this, spoke to the driver and the liaison officer.”
“Upon investigation it was found out that the driver seems to be responsible for transporting these weapons in the NGO’s vehicles.”
The minister said the driver will be held accountable for carrying the weapons.
He added the NGO the driver was working for is not responsible for any crime.
