Political analyst, Charles Rwomushana, has a huge bone to pick with FDC candidate, Kizza Besigye’s wife, Winnie Byanyima.
Byanyima, the director of Oxfam international is a member of the opposition political party but says she doesn’t engage in partisan politics.
However, a week ago, Byanyima went to her social media, Facebook page, and gave former Prime Minister, Amama Mbabazi, a piece of her mind.
“I wonder why Amama expected a level ground and no violence,” she started.
“When he was in the NRM government, he meted out violence to Musinguzi and his supporters in Kanungu, not once, three times.”
James Musinguzi aka Garuga, a businessman in Kanungu was reportedly hounded by Mbabazi several times over the politics of the district.
In June 26, 2001 parliamentary election, for example, when it looked like James Garuga was taking the seat, Mbabazi brought in the military and President Museveni’s Protection Unit under Captain Ndahura to beat voters into line, according to The Independent Magazine.
“Even when the court nullified his election and ruled that he had rigged and used security forces and militias to intimidate and assault voters, he did it again in the subsequent bye-election,” Byanyima continued her discourse on Mbabazi.
She said together with President Yoweri Museveni, Mbabazi has used security forces, army, ISO operatives up to village LDUs, armed militia etc to terrorize Kizza Besigye and opposition candidates and supporters in all past elections.
“Why did Amama expect different treatment when he is in the opposition?”
She asked Amama to be honest and admit that NRM has been stealing elections and “should join hands with democratic forces to stop this theft”.
“When he suggests that this is new or that it is selective and applied to him alone he fails the credibility test,” she concluded.
Rwomushana launches attack
“Ms Winnie Byanyima, how was your husband’s conduct in stifling freedoms?” Rwomushana, a former head of political intelligence desk at State House, responded early this week.
“You forget when Kiiza Besigye conducted RC elections Ugandans were not allowed to display any political party symbol?” he contined.
Asking Byanyima to “go slow…”, Rwomushana said he was with her in the NRM caucus when she was advocating for the narrowing of Space of political parties.
“Now it’s your husband flashing and swinging fingers as sign of FDC.”
“You Winnie,” he was not finished yet, “was involved in the NRA war and on your fingers drip blood of the many in the mass graves in Luwero. Besigye and Muntu smell Dr Kayiira’s blood…”
Rwomushana says he was in Rukungiri, having represented Rujumbura in the CA [sic], when he received a reprimand from Besigye for protesting hooligans who were organised by a one Capt Mwesigye, then the Rukungiri DISO who threw stones at Dr Kawanga Semogerere [then presidential candidate].
“Dr Besigye supervised and besides didn’t condemn the beating of presidential candidate Dr Semogerere, a good friend of your Father Mzee Byanyima, in Rukungiri…”
“Iwe [you] Winnie, are you aware that Dr Besigye, and Capt Mwesigye organised a gang that would lift up and drop on ground who ever signed to nominate Dr Semogerere until they withdrew the signatures…?”
Rwomushana concluded by asking the former Mbarara Municipality Woman Member of Parliament to “…please please…Shut up [Hunaama].”
