The fallen Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) Peacekeepers’ bodies killed in Bangui, Central African Republic on 8 August 2015, were received with military honour at Kigali international Airport on 13 August 2015.
The fallen peacekeepers were killed in an unfortunate incident, by an RDF soldier also serving in the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), when he shot dead four RDF soldiers and injured eight others, in Bangui, at Rwanda Battalion Headquarters (RWABATT 2).
“Today the RDF leadership and members of the families of fallen peacekeepers received in honor four peacekeepers short dead on 8 August and one of the injured peacekeepers who unfortunately died later at Nakasero Hospital where he had been evacuated with five others for further treatment, said Brigadier General Joseph Nzabamwita, Defence and Military Spokesperson.
“At this difficult moment, the RDF comforts the families, RDF family and Rwandans for the terrible loss in a suspected terrorist attack while serving in UN Peacekeeping Mission in Central African Republic”, Brigadier General Joseph Nzabamwita said.
The fallen comrades were laid to rest at Kanombe Military Cemetery on Saturday 15 August 2015.
Investigations continue to establish the motive behind the deplorable shooting incident.
