Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda, joined the Kyabazinga of Busoga William Kadhumbula Gabula Nadiope IV, to express sorrow at the passing of Busoga College Mwiri’s long serving nurse.
The Kyabazinga described the late Ms Naome Lukungu as “larger than life and a tall figure” in the region.
Lukungu who served as a school nurse for 45 years passed on Wednesday.
She was 104 years old and served the college from 1936 to 1981.
According to a message from the Kyabazinga, Lukungu treated many students who passed through her hands from the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.
They include; former President Dr Apollo Milton Obote, Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda, Speaker Francis Ayume, Speaker Alex Waibale, Deputy Speaker Eli Nathan Bisamunyu, Deputy Premier Alhaji Kirunda Kivejinja, Deputy Prime Minister Hon Paul Etiang, Owek Kaya Kavuma, Chief Justice Wako Wambuzi, Chief Justice Egonda Ntende, Supreme Court Judge Prof George Kanyeihamba.
Dr Philmon Mateke, Dr Luwuliza Kirunda, Dr Okullo Epaka, Dr Peter Otai, Dr James Rwanyararare, Dr Ibanda David Dr GW Kafuko, Dr Sam Kadama, Dr AK Oteng, Dr Mutende Shinyabulo.

“Her reign was monumental, a self-made leader whose contribution is unforgettable, her down to earth personality and affable nature endeared her to many,” the Kyabazinga said.
Lukungu was buried on Thursday 10th March 2016 at 200pm at Nsubealong Kamuli road about eight miles outside Jinja town.
In his eulogy, Rugunda said: “Our School Nurse, Naome Lukungu, treated, moulded & mentored us when we were students at Busoga College Mwiri.”
He described Lukungu as an exemplary woman who served Busoga College Mwiri with distinction for a record 45 years.
“We were glad to give her a dignified send off yesterday, at a ripe age of 104. May Her Soul Rest in Eternal Peace.”
