Police in Luweero District is hunting for suspects who on Saturday killed an innocent man after another falsely accused him of theft.

Edward Ssekanyo, a 35-year-old casual laborer at one of the farms at Kirimantungo village in Kamira Sub-county, Luweero District was killed by an angry mob mobilized by a one Ssemakula who had a personal grudge with him.

According to the area Local Council chairperson, Ssemakula made an alarm alerting residents who attacked Ssekanyo with machetes, stones and logs.

Ssemakula is said to have falsely accused Ssekanyo of stealing pineapples from one of the gardens in the area.

Samuel Kigozi, the village’s Defence Secretary said Ssemakula attacked and inflicted deep cuts on Ssekanyo before making an alarm which attracted several people who beat him to death using sticks and stones.

The attack comes just weeks after minister without Portfolio Hajji Abdul Nadduli advised residents to eliminate suspected criminals through mob justice.

However, police in the area has vowed not to allow such lawlessness to continue saying all suspects must be charged in courts of law.
