NBS TV journalist, Remmy Bahati, says during her arrest with FDC secretary for mobilisation, Ingrid Turinawe, policemen fondled their breasts.
The two ladies were arrested outside Kizza Besigye’s home yesterday afternoon and detained at Kasangati police station.
In a statement dated 1st March 2016, Deputy Press and Public Relations, Polly Namaye, said the duo together with Sempijja Ismail were arrested for obstructing Police Officers on duty and disobeying Lawful orders given to them by the Kasangati Division Police Commander Superintendent of Police Kawalya James.
Remmy later issued her own statement dismissing the police statement as “false”.
“The information carried in your statement is false, holds no iota of truth, and intends to mislead Ugandans,” Remmy said.
“I was personally not driving any car. I was arrested while reporting live the police siege at the home of Dr. Kiiza Besigye for the 10th day.”
She said police had warned them against reporting live about Besigye.
“My only crime was to have the courage to report events as they unfolded in Kasangati.”
She added: “Police Force should issue a written apology. I was man handled, fondled inside that van and beaten by huge men.”
Remmy says female officers beat her together with Ingrid while male officers “enjoyed as we were fondled”.
She later made a statement and was released without any charge.
