Moses Mwebesa, the Buhwezu Resident District Commissioner, has been fired for attacking a parish priest who he accused of not supporting president Yoweri Museveni.

Presidential Assistant/Research and Information, Duncan Abigaba, said in a short message: “Following allegations against the Buhweju RDC by the Catholic Church, he has been removed and put under investigation.”

The sacking was effected by Presidency minister, Frank Tumwebaze.

This came after a priest at Bihanga catholic parish in Buhwezu district wrote to Tumwebaze protesting a raid on the church by the area Resident District Commissioner.

He says on Friday 30th these prayers were held as usual and about five thousands believers attended.

“As prayers were underway, around 1:30am, Mr Moses Mwebesa the Buhwezu RDC in the company of the DISO and DPC stormed the prayers, grabbed the microphone from the preacher Deusdedit Nabeeta and ordered everybody to leave the place.”

Ferdinand K Tayebwa, the chairman parish council, demanded that the RDC apologises to entire catholic community of Bihanga before the 10th of February 2016.

In his statement, Tumwebaze said “we have removed the RDC of Buhweju to investigate the allegations”.

“If he acted irregularly, he will be punished.”

Tumwebaze, however, noted that if he is being framed because of local politics on the ground, they will also find out.

Katera Emmy, the current deputy RDC of Mbarara, has been sent caretake the station and replace Mwebesa with immediate effect.
