Police has deployed heavily at Patel Shamji hall in Masaka town to quell a protest staged by youth delegates.
The youth were supposed to vote for the central youth Member of Parliament.
Daniel Lumansi, the youth chairperson for Kakiri town council, claims that the electoral commission “cheated them” and instead of paying Shs1m as promised earlier, EC gave them a miserable Shs400,000.
“We shall not participate in this election unless we are given all our money,” Lumansi who led the group, told journalists at the scene.
He claims those in special interest groups category [People With Disabilities (PWDS)] were given Shs1.2m.
According to Emmanuel Matisko, the Masaka returning officer, the youth are being used by some politicians to cause chaos.
Over the weekend, chaos also brewed in Fort Portal town as Kasese youth delegates turned rowdy.
Over 800 youth delegates from Western region gathered at Kagote SDA hall in Fort Portal municipality to vote for the Western Youth MP.
The seat is contested by the NRM flag bearer, Mwine Mpaka Rwamirama [son to state minister for animal husbandry Bright Rwamirama] and Nduhura Amanya Tumukunde who is an independent candidate [son to Lt. General Henry Tumukunde].
Whoever wins will replace Gerald Karuhanga.
