Leading opposition figure Dr Kizza Besigye has warned the issue of land can slide the country into war if it’s not handled well.
This comes in following the different land wrangles which are on a high rise in the country where several prominent government officials have been involved in the acts.
Addressing an ongoing press conference at his Kasangati home, Besigye has urged Ugandans to rise up and defend their land from “predators”.
“Just like we defended Mabira forest, Ugandans must rise up and defend their land from predators. They can take other things.” Besigye added.
Apart from land systems he says are not only weak but are also bedeviled by systemic corruption, Besigye says lack of knowledge about land registration among the population is another problem:
“Our people have no knowledge about land registration. Most of the conflicts arise from land that isn’t registered.”
