It is with great sorrow that I write to offer my heartfelt condolences to the family of the fallen General Aronda Nyakairima and to fellow Ugandans.
In him, Uganda has lost a fine officer and a gentleman.
I personally knew General Aronda and interacted with him on several official and non-official occasions. It was a great honour to have known him.
General Aronda began his service to Uganda when he sacrificed his youthful days to join the liberation war that brought the National Resistance Movement government to power.
Over the last 30 years, he has held high profile offices that included, Chief of Defense forces and most recently, the Ministry of Internal Affairs where he took over the National Identity Card Programme, which at the time was at the verge of collapse.
No doubt, because of his fineness, the programme now goes down in history as a major success story. Uganda has indeed lost a gallant General.
Aronda was a principled man. He held that which was right dear. He was also a man of wisdom and selflessness.
While his service to Uganda has ended so early and tragically, his death is to me, the highest form of patriotism.
Losing someone we love is never easy, but knowing that we were able to be a part of his life, we come to realize that we were blessed to have shared in his life before he went to be with the Lord.
This is because after the tears have dried and the goodbyes have been said, all we have to hold onto are the happy memories we shared with General Aronda Nyakairima.
This is what will keep him alive in our hearts and minds, and he will continue to live on, through us.
I am certain the entire country, will miss General Aronda dearly.
My deepest sympathy goes out to General Aronda Nyakairima’s family and my fellow countrymen during this difficult time.
Through it all, I hope it helps to remember that General Aronda Nyakairima’s good legacy will leave on through the people whose lives he touched. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
My heartfelt sympathy and prayers,
