Former Makerere University Vice Chancellor, Prof Venansius Baryamureeba, Monday morning visited the Electoral Commission headquarters along Jinja road in Kampala to pick presidential nominations forms.
Barya as he is famously called, announced his candidature in the 2016 presidential elections promising to unseat President Yoweri Museveni.
The professor who is standing as independent picked his forms to run presidency alongside former Prime Minister, Amama Mbabazi.
Addressing press at the EC offices, Baryamureeba distanced himself from The Democratic Alliance, to which Mbabazi belongs under NRM Pro change pressure group led by his sister in-law, Hope Mwesigye.
Barya promised to give Museveni graceful retirement.
“President Museveni will always have my respect because he is a senior citizen of this country,” he told press.
“I will let him (Museveni) retire gracefully.”
Baryamureeba was confident that he will win with a huge margin in round one.
“President Museveni is loved but he is old and tired,” the professor noted.
Among others who picked forms from EC are; Dr Deo Lukyamuzi Kizito and Joseph Mwambazi.
Meanwhile, according to his road map, Baryamureeba held his first consultative meeting at Rushere Primary School playground in Kiruhura district on August 4, 2015.
The climax of Barya’s public consultations will be held in Kampala and will be marked with the launch of the Presidential Manifesto on September 25, 2015.
Barya says he has already divided the country into five sub regions; southern region, western region, central region, eastern region and northern region as per The Fifth schedule to the current Constitution of Uganda.
“In round one, I will publicly consult at least 5 districts from each region and in round two at least 15 districts from each region making a total of at least 100 districts to be publicly consulted.”
Barya’s other plan is to collect signatures of at least 100 voters in each of at least two thirds of all the districts in Uganda concurrently with public the consultations.
His campaign task force is coordinated by, H.E. Yoram Banyenzaki, former Guild President of MUBS – Makerere University Business School.
