Presidential aspirant, Charles Bbale Lwanga’s nomination cancelled by electoral commission.
Lwanga who belongs to the Ecological Party was turned away yesterday by the Electoral Commission (EC) for failing to fulfil the prerequisite requirements.
EC chairman Bardu Kiggundu said Lwanga failed to return his nomination forms and or present an original bank slip to prove payment of Shs 20m nomination fee.
He also said Lwanga submitted passport size photographs instead of post card size photographs.
“Tomorrow there is still some opportunities so it is not yet fatal completely. You can go rectify these and come back. But I made an announcement that, please if your documents are not complete don’t dare come”, Kiggundu is quoted by URN telling Lwanga.
In his defence, Lwanga told URN: “No it is just an oversight of the lawyer, the commissioning, the lawyer did not sign on the nomination papers. Secondly, I brought photos but they said they want post cards. It wasn’t clear. They [said] they wanted photos which I provided, but they want post cards and I think seven of them which we can get in a few minutes. If it was not for [traffic] jam I could even come back today but I think tomorrow is a better day”.
Today, he returned to Namboole for nomination but still met a deadlock.
According to EC, he used a cheque instead of paying cash in the bank.
“Aspirant Bbale there are no games in this exercise. We have given you enough natural justice,” Kiggundu said.
He said Lwanga would not be nominated today unless by miracle.
“Someone come and pick his papers,” Kiggundu said.
Lwanga still protested saying he has bank documents showing he paid the nomination fee.
He was, however, ordered to vacate the room.
