Wafula Oguttu further noted that among the achievements during his tenure, the LOP’s office had grown from three officers in Hon. Nandala-Mafabi’s time to 11 permanent staff, 12 support staff and was soon to be upgraded to a Department with a budget of Ugshs 2 billion.

He also handed over the staff of the office led by Mrs. Ruth Byoona, the Assistant Director of whom he was very proud.

The new LOP Hon. Kiiza while making her remarks, was grateful for the opportunity given to her to lead a great team and promised to make milestones.

“As members of the alternative government we shall be handing over various offices, this is a virtue that we want to show the powers that be, that power can be transferred peacefully from one member to another,” she said.

The Party also formally introduced the new Opposition Whip, Hon. Ssemujju Ibrahim Nganda (Kira Municipality), a position formerly held by Hon. Cecilia Atim Ogwal (Dokolo district).

In her handover remarks, Hon. Cecilia Ogwal thanked the outgoing LOP leadership evidenced by the unity and success that has been registered in the office.

“You are a wonderful person and the success is due to your leadership style which I appreciate a lot,” she told Hon. Wafula Ogutu.

“For the first time a Private Members Bill; the Children’s Amendment Bill, was tabled by a Member of the Opposition, it was discussed and passed in the House. This is a great achievement,” Cecilia Ogwal concluded.
