Opposition Forum for Democratic Change [FDC] claims its officials Ingrid Turinawe and Doreen Nyanjura were fondled by policemen during their arrest yesterday.
“Secretary for Mobilisation Ingrid Turinawe was roughly arrested by Policemen after Nakawa court, in the scuffle policemen squeezed her hands and those of Lord Councillor Doreen Nyanjura,” the party said in a statement.
In March this year, Ingrid was allegedly fondled after being arrested with NBS TV journalist, Remmy Bahati outside Kizza Besigye’s home in Kasangati.
Remmy says female officers beat her together with Ingrid while male officers fondled their breasts.
In May 2015, Ingrid was brutally arrested at Parliament and allegedly undressed by police before being dragged on tarmac.
In 2012, Ingrid had her breasts “pinched and fondled” by police officers who arrested her at an opposition rally at Nansana.
Before the opposition pressure group, Activists for Change (A4C) was banned by the Attorney General, Ingrid had always been a target of police officers who made it a point to sexually assault her.
Ingrid sued Felix Andrew Kaweesi, the then commander Kampala metropolitan and the then Attorney General, Peter Nyombi and demanded over Shs560 million as in damages.
On Wednesday, Ingrid and Nyanjura attempted to walk to Namugongo to go and pray for Dr. Kizza Besigye.
They were later stopped and brutalised by the police.
“We do call upon Women of the Situation Room to demand for justice and the issue of brutalizing those they arrest,” FDC said.
They are currently detained at Jinja Road Police Station.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, says they will be charged with participating in and holding an unlawful society.
