Police in Uganda has warned social media users against sensationalising the case in which they are investigating city businessman Matthew Kanyamunyu over the murder of social worker Kenneth Akena.
Akena was shot last Saturday after he allegedly scratched Kanyamunyu’s car at Lugogo.
Police spokesperson, Andrew Felix Kaweesi today said there are people sensationalising the case and in a way affecting the investigations.
“I have seen social media users are making posts that create a ridge between Ugandans,” I said.
Although Kaweesi Did not give any specific examples, some people on social media have been wondering what would happen if Akena is the one who shot Kanyamunyu, thus judging the issue based on ethnicity.
Kaweesi also explained that police arrested Kanyamunyu’s brothers on Friday to help them with investigations.
According to him, Kanyamunyu made calls to Moses and Joseph Kanyamunyu’s phones after the shooting incident.
He said the suspects including Kanyamunyu’s Burundian girlfriend Cynthia Munwangari will be arraigned in court next week and charged.
