Police has dispersed a rally by Luweero woman Member of Parliament, Brenda Nabukenya.
Nabukenya, a member of the Democratic Party, had organised a rally in Luweero town to address her supporters.
The event was held at Wobulenzi Taxi Park.
Also present at the rally was Mukono Municipality MP, Betty Nambooze, and other DP leaders.
Anti-riot police, armed-to-the-teeth, deployed swiftly and surrounded the venue.
It ordered the meeting dispersed but Nabukenya remained defiant.
Police then fired teargas and rubber bullets scattering her supporters in various directions.
The Savannah RPC, Julius Tusingwire, said they could not allow the “mixing of politics with business”.
He said in any case, Nabukenya did not write to them prior to the meeting which was contrary to the Public Order Management Act.
Tusingwire said the taxi park was a business place and could not be used for political activities.
The defiant Nabukenya, however, insisted that she will address her supporters by hook or crook.
She said meeting her electorate doesn’t require her to first seek police permission.
