Patrol police on Sunday opened fire at a group of people who attempted to attack them, killing one instantly and injuring several others.
The group is said to have attempted to attack the officers who were patrolling near a disputed piece of land in Butaleja District.
The incident comes barely two days after officials from State House convened at Butaleja District headquarter to try and resolve an impasse between a group of rice farmers and Hajji Maliki Koire over the ownership of a 350-acre chunk of land.
The land located in Doho Muhula swamp in Kachonga Sub-county.
The conflict reportedly turned violent on October 13, when unidentified people attempted to attack police who were patrolling the area after getting reports that some residents were planning to destroy rice gardens belonging to their neighbours.
