Police has heavily deployed to Mbale to secure a cultural ceremony that involves the initiation of young boys into manhood as per the norms of the Bamasaba people.
Today, the first day of August, marks the beginning of the month that is destined to usher in the ritual where the foreskin of a man is cut off without any inconvenience of sterilisation [circumcision].
During this ceremony, the ‘assumed’ boy that is an intended man ought not to scream or even wince in pain.
This enriched culture of the ‘Bamasaba’ institutes insurmountable bravery and gives one immediate access to ‘wine and dine’ at the table of the elders.
Speaking to NBS television Monday morning, Mafabi Zandya, the Mbale Mayor, said that Mbale is ready for the thousands that will be there this season that kick starts on 6th August
He adds that there is going to be sufficient security deployment throughout the season thus, security is paramount.
The excited Mafabi acknowledges his assumed 2.2 billion shillings the area expects from tourism during this season.
