Police probes Kampiringisa disaster, deaths


Uganda Police Force is investigating a fatal accident that occurred yesterday Saturday 2nd July 2016  at about 05:45 pm at Kampiringisa, Mpigi district.

Five female adults, 13 male adults and one male juvenile died, making a total of nineteen (19).

Deputy police spokesperson Polly Namaye says the vehicles involved in the accident were towed to Kamengo and Mpigi Police stations respectively for inspection.

They include a Toyota Noah UAS 567C, two Toyota Hiace taxis reg.number UAX 781N, and UAN 443P, Trailor reg.number KBN290X/ZD5983.

“As the Police goes through the process of postmortem and identification,  two (2) of the deceased persons have been identified as 1. Sunday, a resident of Kyengera, was the driver of taxi reg. UAX 781N towing the route from Kampala to Kayebwa stage,  2. Shakaru Kigozi 19 years resident of Bwama.”

The particulars of the deceased and the injured are still scanty, as the medical and Police teams at Mulago hospital attend to the emergency.

“A follow up detailed report shall be issued as soon as more information is obtained about the victims. The police calls for calm and patience and assures the public that the hospital staff and the Police officers are working around the clock to save more lives, and to keep the public updated.”

Police cautioned the general public against recklessness on the road.

“Passengers and drivers must exercise caution and ensure that driving is in accordance with the traffic guidelines so as promote road safety,” Namaye said.
