Following the accident at Kampiringisa, Mpigi district yesterday 02.07.12016, the Uganda Police Force and the medical teams at Nsambya and Mulago hospitals embarked on an emergency treatment for the victims and post-mortem for the deceased victims.
ACP Namaye Polly, the deputy police spokesperson, identified the deceased as; Wanyana Margaret 59 years, Semuwemba Moses 42 years, Nakalanzi Annet 35 years, Robbinah Nandawula 34 years, Sempila Brian 29 years, Pius Semuwemba 12 years.
All the deceased above were residents of Bulemezi, Luwero district.
Others are; Semagwa Joseph 28 years of Kulambiro Ntinda, Serunkabidde Issah 43 years, resident of Ndegeya Masaka, Semwanga John 25 years, resident of Kamengo Mpigi, Serwanja Umaru 55 years, resident of Nakabiso Mukono, Ssenfuka Juma 38 years, resident of Masanafu Lubaga, Lutaya Brian 24 years of Kumbya, Bwama in Mpigi district, Jagwe Mark 24 years of Rwebitakuri, resident of Lwengo district, Kibuuka Sunday Dominic 41 years, resident of Kyengera Wakiso, Dauda Salongo 28 years, resident of Magada in Inganga district, Mulindwa Micheal 34 years, resident of Nyendo Masaka district, Kigozi Shakaru19yrs, resident of Bwama Mpigi district and Mugisha Ivan 24yrs, resident of Ntinda, Kampala.
She said three of the bodies still remain unidentified at Mulago city mortuary [bringing the total of the dead to 21 from 19 yesterday].
Police called upon anybody whose colleague, relative or friend has gone missing and is suspected to have been travelling on Kampala-Masaka road to come to and help them in identifying the remaining victims.
Meanwhile, those injured in the accident are hospitalised at Nsambya hospital and include; Lubega Rakim 21yrs resident of Nalukolongo, Kampala and Nuwagaba Edson 27yrs, resident of Ntugamo district.
The injured hospitalised at Mulago hospital are; Namusango Sylvia 28yrs, resident of Nakulabye, Kampala, Achola Rebecca 26yrs, resident of Buwama trading centre, Mpigi, Sesanga Benafar 4yrs, son of Achola Rebbecca, Nsubuga Swabula 39yrs, resident of Nakilele, Mpigi district, Nansubuga Jariah,8yrs, daughter of Nsubuga Swabula and Ssenfuka Amos 33yrs, driver of UAN 443P, resident of Kazo, Kawempe.
“The Police will issue a follow up statement on the incident as more details are obtained and the investigation progresses.”
Namaye said police will not hesitate to prosecute reckless drivers and calls for more caution and professionalism while on the road.
