Police hunts for Besigye supporters

Uganda Police

Police is hunting for five Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) supporters for allegedly pelting stones at police when former party presidential candidate Kizza Besigye was in Mbarara District on his way to Rukungiri District last week.

Those on police’s wanted list include Stanely Katembaya, the FDC chairman western Uganda.

According to Rwizi DPC Hillary Kulaigye, the suspects will be arraigned in court and charged upon their arrest.

But Katembaya denies any wrong doing adding that on the said day, police transported to Mbarara members of the notorious kifeesi gang known for terrorising residents of Kampala and neighbouring areas.

According to him, police is witch hunting them with trumped up charges.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Gen Kale Kayihura, at the weekend said police had not prepared well to handle followers of Besigye, in Kampala when he was released from Luzira last Tuesday.
