Eight supporters of presidential aspirant Amama Mbabazi were this morning arrested in Kampala.
The eight mobilisers were arrested from Kawempe Inn and are currently being detained at Kawempe Police Station.
They had organised a press briefing at the Inn and from where, they would proceed to different primary schools to distribute books.
The mobilisers were arrested by the Divisional Police Commander (DPC) Kawempe on ground that they had not sought permission from the police to hold the meeting as provided for in the Public Order Management Act.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, the eight are still being interrogated and are recording statement, after which, the investigating officer will decide on which tentative charges to prefer on them.
A number of people calling themselves the Pro- Mbabazi youths have been arrested and some charged in court for illegal assembly since April 2014.
Two weeks ago, when Mbabazi announced his intention to contest for the presidency in 2016, about 17 of his supporters were arrested across the country while trying to pin posters of the former premier.
