Police driver of ‘Besigye van’ charged with theft of cars, pleads not guilty

The police officer who was arrested recently over theft of cars has been charged in court.

Isaac Ssegawa, the driver of the notorious black police van which was named ‘Besigye van’ today appeared before Mbarara Grade one Magistrate and pleaded not guilty to the charges of theft and conspiracy to commit a felony.

During his recent arrests, former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) would be bundled in the black police van chauffeured by Ssegawa and driven to different police cells or prisons where he would be detained for days or hours.

While appearing in court today, Ssegawa denied the charges connected to stealing cars registration numbers UDM524Z Toyota Rav4 with Shs15m and UAK 409B Premio with Shs7.5m.

Ssegawa was arrested recently, during a police operation to end increasing cases of car robberies in western Uganda.

This was after some of the suspects named him as their boss in the car theft operation.
