Police has disowned a group of masked men that beat up FDC supporters along Kasangati road early in the week.
Opposition leader Kizza Besigye alleges the squad was unleashed by authorities to beat up his supporters in Kampala as he attended prayers at FDC offices in Najjanankumbi.
The thugs suspected to be Kifeesi gang members stood should-to-shoulder with policemen as they beat up FDC supporters.
Wearing black t-shirts and hoods, the gang also beat up bodaboda riders who were following Dr Besigye’s car.
Police deputy spokesperson, Polly Namaye, distanced the force from having any links with this gang.
Abbas Byakagaba, the Kampala Metropolitan Police commander, has ordered an investigation into the group to commence.
The same group beat up people on Monday as Besigye made his way to Kampala city centre.
Byakagaba told press he had directed the Kampala Metropolitan CID officer to investigate the matter.
