Police detain four over theft of Shs220m youth funds


Police in Namutumba district is has arrested four people over theft of 220 million shillings meant for several projects under the Youth Livelihood Development Fund.

The suspects are; Olivia Tibaaga, Sheriff Metesa, Hellen Balambe, and Nelson Buyinza, all youth.

The money, which was remitted to the district last financial year is feared to have been shared by a few politicians, youths and technical officers in the district.

Busoga East Region police spokesperson, James Mubi said the four were arrested from different locations the district.

He said the suspects got in excess of 10million shillings to do some work, but the Chairperson took 1.5million shillings and bought himself clothes while the rest of the money was shared among other members.

Elijah Madoi the Namutumba Resident District Commissioner (RDC)said out of the 220million shillings stolen, only 2.4million shillings has so far been recovered.
