Police has crossed reports saying it arrested Mukono municipality Member of Parliament, Betty Nambooze, yesterday.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman, Patrick Onyango, told us they [police] never arrested Nambooze at all.
Media reports say Police on Monday evening arrested Nambooze with four other executives of the Democratic Party (DP) for allegedly holding an unlawful assembly.
The others are; Mukono Central Division party flag bearer George Kagimu, the district party spokesperson, Peter Nsamba, Brian Sejjemba and one Tasira.
Kagimu is vying for the Mukono Central Division chairmanship.
According to the reports, the group was picked at around seven o’clock from Nassuuti Mwala pub as they addressed a group of residents.
They were thrown on a police pick up and driven to Mukono police station where they were detained.
However, Onyango says Nambooze was neither arrested nor detained at any one point yesterday.
“That [Nambooze arrest] is not true,” Onyango told Insider.
“She is at home,” Onyango said.
Mukono DPC, Fred Ahimbisibwe, told Daily Monitor, the group was arrested for holding a political meeting without seeking prior permission from police.
Speaking from her home at Nakabago in Ntaawo ward on Tuesday, Nambooze told the newspaper she was released after midnight and driven to her home in a police truck.
