Police chief killed in Masaka accident


A road accident occurred along Masaka highway on Sunday morning.

The accident involved Kigali bound Jaguar bus reg no. UAT 728F and Rwanda’s Trinity bus reg no. RAB 793E, all plodding the western Uganda route.

The buses collided at Mukoko in Lukaya Kalungu district at around 5am due to morning fog.

Three people are reported dead and nine others injured.

Among the dead is Mr. Deo Kweyamba, the Officer-in-Charge of Traffic Lukaya Police Station who was on duty.

Masaka district Traffic Commander Hassan Sekalema said Inspector Kweyamba and his junior officers were trying to clear the scene of the accident when a speeding Fuso track reg no UAP 252C crushed him to death.

Due to the thick fog, another trailer, a pickup truck registration number UAB 712A and a Fuso number UAV 680B all rammed into the buses bringing the total of vehicles involved to six.
