A Democratic Party (DP) rally that was scheduled to take place on Sunday at Kaunda Grounds in Gulu Municipality has been blocked by police.
Police on Sunday afternoon sealed off the place and deployed heavily to prevent the planned rally by DP president Norbert Mao.
According to Mao, the rally was intended to call for truth, justice and peace in the Acholi region.
Gulu District Police Commander Martin Okoyo told our reporter that he could not allow the rally to go ahead because Mao had not informed police about the event in time.
“Besides, addressing a rally in Gulu at this time is risky to the residents in terms of security,” said Okoyo.
Okoyo was referring to the recent Gulu attacks which left four people dead and 10 suspects arrested.
Police Tuesday confirmed that they had arrested 10 suspects including commanders of the May 27 attack on a Local Defence Unit (LDU) detach in Opit and Sunday night attack on Gulu Central Police Station.
The assailants on LDU detachment killed two people and fled with guns whereas as the Sunday incident cost the lives of two security officers Cpl Moses Edema (UPDF) and the Aswa Regional Fire Officer Moses Masaba.
