Police is holding 85 members of B13, a criminal gang that has been terrorising Kampala city.
The operation that saw the gangsters apprehended was led Muhammad Kirumira, the new Old Kampala District Police Commander.
Kirumira says the group operates in areas of Kasubi, Munaku, Nakulabye, Nabulagala, Kawaala, Kikoni Northern Bypass, Masanafu and Lugala among others.
The group is comprised of more than 200 members with covert coordination offices in Kawaala, a Kampala suburb.
“B13 members break into houses and rob pedestrians,” Kirumira, a cop celebrated for clearing Kampala of thieves, said.
They were arrested during an operation code named “fagiya uchafu” [getting rid of rubbish].
Kirumira says the operation is targeting over 500 criminals in different gangs.
There are about 10 known criminal gangs operating in Kampala.
Some of the prominent ones are; Kifeesi, Naguru Arrow Boys, Bijambiya, Bukolwa Crew, Cheap Stores Smart Boys, Kasolo Boys and Banzike Crew.
