Eight staff members of Moroto Municipality council have been arrested over their failure to pick dead bodies from Moroto Regional Referral Hospital.
The suspects who were arrested over the weekend will be charged in court over negligence.
Last week, patients deserted the hospital over failure by management to pick dead bodies from the wards.
Dead bodies reportedly spend two to four days in the wards without being disposed-off.
Some patients had even sought shelter under trees in the cold dark nights while others had discharged themselves without completing treatment.
According to the hospital director Filbert Nyeko, the facility does not have enough space in the morgue to keep the dead bodies.
He said that the hospital mortuary was full of unclaimed dead bodies after relatives abandoned them.
According to him, Moroto municipal council is charged with the responsibility of collecting and burying of unclaimed bodies.
When police got the report, they rounded up eight staff members in the Municipal council’s health department charged with picking the dead bodies.
They were detained at Moroto Police station where they recorded statements before being released on police bond.
However, the District Police Commanders George Obia said they would be arraigned in court at an appropriate time and charged with negligence.
