Police has arrested more errant drivers in the last two days, bringing the total number to 185.
According to police, the suspects will appear in court to be charged.
They were arrested in an operation to crack down on errant drivers whose actions have led to increased accident cases that have claimed several innocent lives.
The operation was conducted as police, Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA), transport ministry, NGOs among others launched a campaign dubbed ‘Fika Salama’ intended to reduce on road accidents along Masaka road that has seen more than 130 people lose their lives.
They were arrested over different cases including reckless driving, lack of driving permits, overloading and expired driving permits among others.
Over 40 people have perished in road accidents last month and most of the deaths were recorded on Kampala –Masaka highway and the latest occurred on Wednesday night at Kamutuuza village in Bukulula sub-county, about 12 km to Masaka Town, where nine people perished and 16 others injured.
Most of the accidents happened at a section between Maya-Katende and Nabyewanga Trading Center near Lwera swamp at the border of Mpigi and Kalungu Districts.
