As it has always been on record for the previous years the MTN Kampala marathon being the most selling marathon in Uganda, again this year’s the event has left the whole country in silence following the huge turn up.
This year’s marathon was also held at Kololo airstrip grounds and was held in order to promote sanitation in primary schools in Kampala.
There countless reasons why the millions of people turned up this prestigious event from as far as Kenya. Some target the financial beat of it since the best runners are massively awarded with millions of money, others do it for love and sprite of improving the people’s livelihood, others join to make some physical exercises, others for fun, honestly I can’t list all the reasons here.
However, amidst all those points, there is the moment when people go screaming in different tones. Imagine if you are the one receiving the 43 kilometer race award of Shs. 9M, look at the moment when you meet you friend after a long while and the luck knocks you find him/her during the Marathon, Thats awesome selfie you take and with no minute its seen getting viral on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or any other social media platform, trust me the smile on your face has to be as big as the MTN Mokash billboards on Kampala roads.
The shock and tears comes in when realize your speed is still lacking during that moment when can’t even tell the position you held at the end of the race.
That moment when you find yourself in the recovery tent without knowing how you got there simply because the ambulance helped you reach there in time before even the one who received the trophy due to a muscle pull or any other health related complications.
However besides all that which may happen during such events, MTN Uganda and the partners standout unique and special. They work tooth and nail to see that whoever attends the Marathons leaves with a smiles face and even those who get challenges are still all given the quickest five star attention.
Thank you MTN Uganda, City Ambulance, Stanbic bank, Rwenzori mineral water, and whoever turned up for 2016 Kampala marathon, I run, I had fun, perfectly enjoyed my Sunday and all i am thinking about now, is when is the next marathon?
