President Yoweri Museveni has applauded Bishop Kaggwa of Masaka Diocese for championing development and uniting all the youth without discrimination to enhance their talents.
The President’s message was delivered by the Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda who represented him at Bishop Kaggwa final youth cup tournament at Kitaasa Catholic parish grounds in Bukomansimbi district.
“It is my sincere hope that all participants will surely build a spirit of teamwork amidst competition amongst your groups. When people work together they surely win,” Museveni said.
He said Bishop Kaggwa youth cup tournament will help build spirited youth groups towards patriotism which will in turn enhance their ability to work together for many other social and economic objectives of the community towards prosperity.
The President said the Church in Uganda had been a reliable development partner with government over the years especially in the areas of human development, provision of education and health services.
President Museveni commended the Church leadership for reaching out to the people beyond the pulpit to enhance their participation in community activities adding that religious leaders ought to continue using their proximity to the population to promote the government poverty eradication agenda.
“The church has been very instrumental in the molding of society and moral guidance, ensuring social stability and economic empowerment,” said the President.
He encouraged the people of Bukomansimbi to work hard and continue supporting the NRM leadership for visionary development.
Museveni said Government will continue consolidating the progress so far made by strengthening the frameworks for dialogue and improving on the quality of life for the youth through programs that enhance their capacities in the areas of entrepreneurship development, lobbying, advocacy, behavioral change, critical analysis, critical thinking, networking and collaboration.
“The youth, working with their parents, can transform agriculture, away from subsistence to commercial farming,” Museveni said.
Rugunda said he was working on the directive by President Museveni to ensure that Operation wealth creation, the Youth livelihood fund and the Women fund are prioritised in FY 2016/17 budget.
Bishop Kaggwa said the tournament was started to keep the youth focused and to harness their talents.
He also thanked the Prime Minister and all other stakeholders for successfully organizing the visit of Pope Francis.
