Renowned city pastor, Augustine Yiga today appeared before the High court to answer claims that he has failed to provide for his child.
Yiga, commonly known as ‘abiizayo’ (spellcaster) is accused of failing to pay a monthly maintenance fee of Shs 150,000 to a former church aide Brenda Nalubega whom he allegedly raped and impregnated.
After the closed-door court session, Yiga looked for an exit route free of journalists. He attempted to use the back gate but was stopped by security, as the gate is only used by judges.
He then walked to the lower public gate where all the journalists had gathered and was saved by a special hire taxi that quickly drove him away.
Nalubega, a former servant in his Revival Church in Kawaala, says Yiga is no longer paying maintenance fee for the child as tasked by court.
Yiga through his lawyer, Faizal Muralila denied the accusation of failing to provide for the child.
He displayed a payment schedule that his client has been making at Nabweru court as proof of until July 28.
The next hearing will be on notice. Lawyers who attended the session say the complainant asked for an increment in maintenance fee from Shs 150,000 to Shs 800, 000.
