The parliamentary committee for Natural Resources Committee have insisted Pastor Kakande, Mr. Ssebalamu and Chinese involved in illegal sand mining in Lwera must appear before them in person.
Addressing the press the press on Wednesday morning at Parliament, Hon. Herbert Ariko a member of the committee added that even politicians who may be involved in environmental degradation will also be summoned to face the committee.
“Nobody is above the law, If there are any politicians involved in environmental degradation, they will be summoned to the committee & action taken” said Hon. Ariko.
Hon. Ariko also critically asked whether there is any given percent of taxes gone from miners that goes to the local government.
“If I may ask, are there taxes being paid as a result of the sand mining activity in these areas or Uganda is losing out”
However the vice chairperson of the committee Hon. Keefa Kiwanuka also said that People involved in environmental degradation should be subject to heavy penalties’
